On the evening of September 27th, 2023, Phoenix School (“the School”) organized a Mid-Autumn Festival Dinner at Phoenix Language Village to welcome the new residents of Phoenix School (the international students of Class 2023) in order to help them experience the Mid-Autumn Festival culture, and promote mutual understanding of different civilizations. The dinner was attended by all the faculty and international students of Phoenix School, representatives of departments involved in international affairs, functional departments, other colleges and international teachers.
The Mid-Autumn Festival Dinner kicked off with Chinese-English bilingual greetings from three international student hosts.
Dinner hosts: Liang Qiongjiang (Vietnam, majoring in International Chinese Language Education), Liu Xinyu (Thailand, majoring in International Chinese Language Education) and Meng Qiang (Bangladesh, Master of Public Administration)
At the beginning of the dinner, Mr. He Jiangkun, Deputy Dean of Phoenix School; Ms. Guo Kanjun, Director of the International Office of Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai (BNU Zhuhai); Mr. Zhou Jian, Professor of the Center for Linguitic Studies of Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences, and Prof. Pompeo Della Posta, teacher representative of the Belt and Road School, delivered speeches expressing their hope that this activity will be the beginning for the old and the new members of Phoenix School to meet and know about each other, and to integrate into the big family of Phoenix School. They also wished that the future life and study of the international students in Zhuhai would be even more exciting, with this dinner serving as a good beginning for them to experience the profound and vivid traditional Chinese culture, so that they could be more deeply involved in the activities of cultural mutual understanding in more elevated ways, so as to understand China well and join the efforts to tell a good story of China. They also wished the Mid-Autumn Festival dinner a complete success. Next, Prof. Zhou recited the poem he composed for the Mid-Autumn Festival dinner. He then explained the poem and interpreted the purpose of composing the poem, showcasing the elegance and inheritance of the Mid-Autumn Festival culture.

Phoenix School organized a series of special activities, such as guessing lantern riddles, telling traditional stories of Mid-Autumn Festival, enjoying Mid-Autumn Festival traditional songs, experiencing traditional Chinese throwing games, making Mid-Autumn Festival handicrafts and so on. The international students experienced the colorful Mid-Autumn Festival culture in person by participating in the activities enthusiastically.

During the Mid-Autumn Festival dinner, the international students not only had a taste of traditional Mid-Autumn Festival food and watched wonderful performances, but also experienced Mid-Autumn Festival special activities, which enhanced their mutual understanding of each other, and deepened their understanding of the homesickness and traditional Chinese culture endowed by the Mid-Autumn Festival. The international teachers and students in attendance all expressed their unforgettable memories of the evening and expectations for the upcoming year.
