On the morning of August 26th, 2023, the commencement ceremony of the Summer International Chinese Language Education and Training Program co-hosted by Phoenix School and School of International Chinese Language Education, Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai was successfully held at the Phoenix Space of Yuehua Garden at BNU Zhuhai.
Liu Lanmin, Head of the International Chinese Language Education Department, College of Education for the Future, Beijing Normal University; Qiu Yue, Deputy Director of the International Office; He Jiangkun, Deputy Dean of Phoenix School; Yang Xirui and Zhang Ling, Assistants to Dean of Phoenix School; Guo Can, the teacher representative of the International Chinese Language Education Department, along with the 11 Cambodian college students participating in the training program and teachers and management team of the program, attended the commencement ceremony.
The ceremony was presided over by teacher Guo Can. First, the Cambodian college students were divided into three groups to share their unforgettable memories and abundant harvests from the program, including their learning experiences of the Chinese language, traditional martial art, Tai Chi, and calligraphy, culture visits, campus life and so on. Their vivid descriptions and sincere emotions evoked bursts of laughter and tender feelings from the audience.
After the Cambodian students shared their experiences, He Jiangkun, Deputy Dean of Phoenix School, Qiu Yue, Deputy Director of the International Office, and Liu Lanmin, Head of the International Chinese Language Education Department, delivered a speech one by one. They extended congratulations to the students for their graduation and expressed gratitude to the teachers and the management team for their hard work and dedication. They also encouraged the Cambodian students to continue to study Chinese, use it well, and make greater contributions to the world's better understanding of Chinese language and culture. In the future, BNU Zhuhai will design and implement more diverse courses and projects for international students, and we look forward to everyone's active participation.
The course team presented the students with their transcripts and graduation certificates and took a group photo with them to commemorate their achievements.
Finally, the Cambodian students gave an excellent performance prepared for the commencement ceremony, which was initiated by playing a moving farewell video they made. Then, they sang the Chinese-Cambodian bilingual song “Can't Help Falling in Love” (originally sung by Chinese singer Harlem Yu) and Chinese songs “Summer” and “My Chinese Heart.” They also invited the guests and teachers present to dance together. The performance ended with the Chinese song, “Farewell,” sung by everyone present, which drew a perfect warm and affectionate conclusion to the commencement ceremony.
