The Admission Ceremony and Mid-Autumn Festival Party for the 2024 Class of New International Students was Successfully Held

On the afternoon of September 13, 2024, the 2024 Freshman Admission Ceremony and Mid-Autumn Festival Party, hosted by Phoenix School, was successfully held at Phoenix Space on the first floor of Building 14, Yuehua Garden. The admission ceremony and Mid-Autumn Festival party were attended by representatives of International Office, the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs, representatives of other administrative departments, representatives of international students’ cultivating units, international teachers and students’ representatives, and all the staff of Phoenix School.

The event kicked off with four international students hosting in both Chinese and English.

At the beginning of the event, He Jiangkun, deputy Dean of Phoenix School; Qiu Yue, Deputy Director of International Office; Professor Zhang Weijia and Professor Zhu Xiaoxia of Faculty of Arts and Sciences, delivered speeches in turn.

On behalf of Phoenix School, Deputy Dean He Jiangkun extended a warm welcome and sincere greetings to the new international students, pointing out that Phoenix School, as a big family, provides life security and care for students, and helps students achieve all-round growth. He also expressed his hope that under the background of cultural exchange and mutual learning of civilizations, students would become messengers of civilization dissemination. On the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival, he encouraged all the students of Phoenix School to recall the nostalgia and beauty of our hometown together, to understand, respect and tolerate each other in the diversity of regions, cultures, customs and beliefs, and to achieve success in their studies at BNU Zhuhai and build their dreams for the future. He also wished everyone a happy Mid-Autumn Festival and a happy life.

Deputy Director Qiu Yue expressed her hopeful expectations for the new and old members of Phoenix School to meet and get to know each other and integrate into the big family of Phoenix School. The full moon day in the autumn is a day of reunion, and the gathering of all teachers and students during this moment was another interpretation of reunion in traditional Chinese culture.

Professor Zhang Weijia introduced the achievements of the second classroom of Phoenix School to the participating teachers and students. Starting from the calligraphy works displayed in the activity venue, the beauty of traditional Chinese culture was displayed. He also encouraged the students for cross-cultural communication and mutual learning of civilizations, and expected the students to actively participate in the courses of the second classroom.

By sharing his own experience of studying abroad with the new students, Professor Zhu Xiaoxia encouraged them to communicate and learn more from the professors and peers of the school, expand their learning horizons, actively integrate into campus life, be fearless of challenges, and develop in an all-round way.

The representative of the 2024 Class of international students, Lin Bijuan from Cambodia, shared her learning, life and feelings at Phoenix School for the first time, and sincerely thanked the teachers of Phoenix School for their meticulous arrangements in the orientation work and careful preparations for the Mid-Autumn Festival party.

Then, the event ushered in a wonderful talent show. New and old students from different countries demonstrated their talents through guitar singing, modern song and dance display, full chorus, Mid-Autumn Festival poetry recitation and so on. Different languages, cultures and customs converged at this moment, but they were integrated in the recollections of each one’s hometown, the blessings of relatives and friends, and the common prayer for a happy life. The atmosphere on site was lively and warm.

In addition, Phoenix School also prepared Mid-Autumn Festival special activities, such as chopsticks pinball challenge, traditional Chinese throwing game experience, Mid-Autumn Festival handicrafts and Mid-Autumn moon cake tasting activities, to attract international students to experience the charm of the Mid-Autumn Festival traditional culture for themselves.

During this activity, the new international students felt the attentive care and eager expectations from the university. The students enhanced their understanding of each other through the special activities of the Mid-Autumn Festival, shared the joy of integration, the happiness of gathering and the warmth of belonging, deeply understanding the beauty of traditional Chinese culture, sensed the feeling of homesickness and reunion in the full moon of the autumn and the good wishes for the future of life.
