Phoenix Language Village| The "World Book Day" Series Activities: Reading and Interpretation of British Detective Novels

On April 23rd, Phoenix Language Village held the "World Book Day" series activities of immersive reading and logical deduction of British detective novels. In 1995, UNESCO declared April 23rd as the "World Book Day," with the aim of encouraging more people to read and write. It is also anticipated that all people can respect and appreciate the great masters of literature, culture, science and thought who have made profound contributions to human civilization, and can protect intellectual property rights as well. Every year, more than 100 countries around the world hold various celebrations and book promotion events on April 23rd.

This activity was held by Phoenix Language Village, and students from the English Association took part in the offline reading activity. The activity focused on the detective novel  Murder on the Orient Express,  written by British author Agatha Christie. It broke the convention of only reading paper books, and combined novels with acting scripts to reproduce the scenes of novel as much as possible, so that students could feel the charm of detective novels. The students actually "played" the roles in the book, reproduced the plots of the book, and discussed the humanistic issues such as law and reason in depth.

Through the experience of deductive reading, students will be stimulated to internalize systematic thinking into deep thinking about life. And the good habit of independent learning will be cultivated so that students can acquire, explore, search for and master new knowledge, thus feeling the joy of reading and finally forming a good habit of reading.

The mission of Phoenix School is to promote the development of international education and cultivate talents with global vision. This "World Book Day" activity started with British detective novels to cultivate students’ independent spirit and critical thinking, broaden their international vision and improve their international understanding. In the future, Phoenix Language Village will continue to play an important role in promoting international education, gradually carry out characteristic language classes and cultural exchange activities between China and foreign countries, and cultivate talents with international vision and global competence.
