From June 28 to July 1, the online course "Introduction to Portuguese Language and Culture" was offered by Phoenix School of Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai to all students at school, aiming at broadening students' international horizons and expanding their multi-cultural thinking. Mr. Song Haoyan (assistant professor, doctoral supervisor, Ph.D. of the University of Minho, Portugal) and assistant professor Ms. Guo Mo, the director of undergraduate courses of the International College of Macau University of Science and Technology were specially invited to give lectures, aiming at assisting students not only master basic Portuguese, but also learn about the connection between the language itself and the culture behind it.

At the beginning of the course, Ms. Guo Mo ’s lively and humorous lectures contributed to students’ understanding of Portuguese history and culture by gradually building a basic framework, and therefore, led them into the world of Portugal culture. What’s impressive was Ms. Guo Mo’s presentation and explanation of the works and their different artistic styles as well as the cultural characteristics, all of which reflected the characteristics of the times in Portugal in different periods.

In the later period, basic Portuguese teaching and further explanation of Portuguese history and culture were conducted by Mr. Song. Even though it was an online class, the enthusiasm of the students was undiminished, who turned on the microphones and read daily terms together with the teacher.

Then, Mr. Song reviewed the development history of Portugal and gave students a new perspective and thinking on Portuguese culture, based on the relationship between China and Portugal since ancient times.

With the careful guidance of the two teachers and the active participation of the students, the course "Introduction to Portuguese Language and Culture" was successfully concluded on July 1. It’s expected that the students could take this course as a good start for their Portuguese learning and achieve success in their following learning.
